Help support neighborhood pedestrian safety!

Wagner Walks

We're a group of neighbors who want safer access to city & school buses and walking accessibility in our neighborhood. Help inform the Scio Township Board of Trustees that there's significant demand from residents!

The Vision

We are encouraging the Scio Township Board of Trustee's to review options to improve the pedestrian safety along Dexter-Ann Arbor & North Wager Road. Specifically, we would love to see the following:

1. Engineering study to extend sidewalks from Jackson Ave north along N. Wagner.

2. Installation of bus shelters for both Route 31 stations at N. Wagner & Dexter-Ann Arbor.

3. Explore connecting Dexter-Ann Arbor to the Ann Arbor City sidewalk on the south side of the road.

4. Installation of pedestrian crossing signals and markings at the Dexter-Ann Arbor/N. Wagner intersection.

Bus Stop Shelters

We encourage the AAATA and Board of Trustee's to install dedicated bus stop shelters for the Route 31 stops along Dexter-Ann Arbor and North Wagner. Similar to the stations installed along Jackson Ave by the Scio Downtown Development Authority (DDA), these stops would greatly improve the safety for riders. As reported during the Bus Advisory Committee on Jan 19, 2024, this route saw nearly 3,000 riders in 2022. However, getting to the stop is treacherous and getting off lands you in the middle of a busy road with no where to go safely.

SideWalks

We encourage the Washtenaw County Roads Commission, Scio Board of Trustees, and MDOT to enable pedestrian sidewalks to connect from the City of Ann Arbor along Dexter-Ann Arbor Road and southward to Jackson Ave. These sidewalks would improve the safety, accessibility, and promote alternative transportation means within the township.Previously outlined in the 2023 - 2027 Scio Township Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan, North Wagner has potential to become a popular pedestrian connector road. In many ways, it already is, but people are walking along the side of the busy 40 mph road. Additionally, this small area is a pickup spot for the 114 bus to Abbot, 139 bus to Forsythe, and 139 bus to Skyline schools. We should have a safe area for kids to wait for the bus. While initially focusing on just the Dexter-Ann Arbor/North Wagner intersection, this work lays out a better path forward to vastly improving our pedestrian connectivity. We hope to see further improvements connecting to the Botsford County Preserve and beyond.
